FUNERAL SCULPTURES

& BEYOND A CULTURE

Following the "Sculpting the Change" exhibition in the cultural conservation program, YUU Organization collaborates with Columbus State University, Georgia, USA, to organize film screenings and dialogue about minority culture in the globalization era. In the event, YUU Organization not only spreads the cultural aspect of ethnic minority people in the Central Highlands of Vietnam but also discusses the disappearance of minority culture from the anthropological landscape.

The dialogue is coordinated by Vinh Huynh - Sculpting the Change program member, and Nick Miller - majoring in Art History and Computer Science, with the supervision of the Department of Arts at CSU.

During the program, Vinh Huynh gave a lecture introducing Vietnamese Funeral Sculpture, Bahnar and Jrai folk arts, and cultural-preservation strategies, after a documentary film about the issues that the ethnicity groups facing to preserve their culture. Following up was Nick Miller’s presentation featuring funerary arts in different traditions. Informing and raising awareness of cultural preservation, anthology and art history for students. Connecting communities and create a meaningful conversation about inclusion and diversity of cultures. These were the primary goals of the project.
