Tittle: Scales of Silence
Medium: Videos, CRT TVs
Size: Dimensions variable
Year: 2025
Scales of Silence is video installation featuring CRT monitors stacked and arranged to play continuous footage of goldfish and clownfish in synthetic aquarium environments. The glowing screens evoke domestic nostalgia while also highlighting themes of containment, emotional repetition, and voicelessness. The fish, silent and observed, become metaphors for queer experiences—trapped in cycles of performative stillness yet radiant with symbolic resilience. Among them, clownfish (capable of changing sex), goldfish (a symbol of blessing), and fake plastic fish together represent transformation, survival, and the tension between authenticity and performance within queer experience.
